"To help local city leaders understand how their governments can make significant progress toward becoming more sustainable"
Some cities have already decided to become more sustainable, and have embarked on ambitious "visioning processes" to begin defining what directions these efforts should take. For those cities Our Green Cities seeks to help city leaders continue their forward progress.
Other cities have yet to make that decision. Our Green Cities seeks to help these city leaders understand why they should begin taking sustainability seriously, and to give them guidance and advice about how they might proceed.
Our Green Cities' efforts are focused on: - Helping cities form political strategies likely to be successful in creating the desire to become more sustainable.
- Making the experiences of the more sustainable cities around the country accessible to city leaders who want to see what their options are and what has worked in other cities.
- Facilitating private and non-profit organizations' interactions and coalitions with local public officials to put sustainability on the local agenda.
- Serving as a bridge to link local leaders with needed resources as they face judgments about what specific policies and programs are realistic and affordable.
- Working to assist in the creation of local sustainability policies, programs, and practices.
